Strategic Shift or Debt Reduction? Stora Enso Sells Sunila Mill Real Estate Amid Lignin Innovation
Stora Enso is selling the real estate of its Sunila mill in Kotka, Finland, to Aalto Development, with the transaction expected to close by year-end. The mill, which has been producing lignin and refining it into hard carbon for lithium-ion batteries since 2015, is part of Stora Enso's broader restructuring efforts. This move follows the company’s decision to divest 1.4 million hectares of land in Sweden, raising questions about whether these sales are part of a new strategic direction or a method to reduce debt.
