A steep drop in market prices of paper impacted the profit of TNPL for Q2Y24-25

TNPL's Q2 FY24-25 profit dropped sharply to Rs. 2.59 Crore, down from Rs. 30.30 Crore last year, due to a steep decline in paper prices. Despite slightly increasing paper production, the lower prices and rising competition from imported paper hurt its revenue, which fell to Rs. 927.87 Crore. For the half-year, revenue dropped to Rs. 2,057.71 Crore, and profit after tax decreased to Rs. 24.49 Crore. TNPL is also revamping its steam and power system at Unit-I, with the installation of high-pressure boilers expected to be completed by March 2026. Global shipping disruptions may help boost domestic prices in the future.
